Brandwave (NIVEA SUN account)
BACKGROUND
Brandwave’s client, NIVEA SUN, is a large global skin and body-care brand, owned by German company Beiersdorf.
The company began in 1911 when Beiersdorf developed a water-in-oil emulsifier as a skin cream. Since the 1980s, when the NIVEA SUN brand began to be promoted to a wider global market, it has become one of the world’s best known brands.
CHALLENGE
Brandwave had a unique challenge – to create the campaign material for the new NIVEA SUN range, a product still on the production line off-shore and a ‘must’ launch date coinciding with delivery into Australia. With stores ready to take delivery of product and POS material, they needed the technology and expertise to be able to produce cutting-edge photography without access
to a sample.
SOLUTION
Using a revolutionary technique, Dimension Studios was able to build computer-generated 3D models of the product and digitally ‘wrap’ them in the desired artwork. This meant great product shots for NIVEA SUN without ever having seen the actual product.
RESULTS
Not only did the product shots look fantastic, the 3D photography actually eliminated any room for non-perfect (damaged) product, reduced product shipping and waste but most importantly, allowed Brandwave to deliver the total NIVEA SUN campaign to stores at the same time.
The digitally created image was used extensively throughout the campaign. Perhaps the greatest result for Brandwave and their client, NIVEA SUN, was that despite the image being widely used, there were no associated usage costs.
