Carrolls Pine is a small, family-owned building company which supplies timber and hardware products to the general public. It is located in the Newcastle area and has 2 stores, which have been servicing the Hunters construction needs for over 60 years.
Since its establishment, Carrolls Pine have used newspapers as its primary advertising channel.

Challenge
Carrolls Pine had never used catalogues as an advertising channel. They were not seen as a viable option for the company as, being a small retailer, they do not have any design and production capabilities in-house. In addition, they were unaware of the time and costs involved in producing and printing catalogues.
However, their newspaper advertising was receiving very little response, so Carrolls Pine decided to find an alternative medium which would allow them to target their products to the Sydney market.

This was an affordable way to allow Carrolls Pine to try a new advertising medium which had never been tested before and compare its effectiveness against previous channels used.

Carrolls Pine received a huge response after their catalogues were distributed. The number of requests for quotes increased significantly and they successfully broke into the Sydney market.
Due to the large success of this campaign, they are looking to expand the areas they target with the Catalogue Express product.
